Beijing College of Politics and Law Integrated Lighting Project

北京政法学院综合照明项目-tuya-4.jpg

Project Overview

  • Project Date: April 2016

  • Project: Beijing College of Politics and Law Stadium Lighting Project

  • Deployment: 4 × 20 m mechanical-lowering high mast lighting systems and 36 × 9 m decorative lighting poles

  • Delivery Lead Time: 26 days

This project provided an integrated outdoor lighting solution for both the stadium and campus road areas.

The 20 m mechanical-lowering high mast systems were used for large-area sports-field lighting, while the 9 m multi-luminaire decorative poles were installed along campus roads and public areas.

The project required a balance between lighting coverage, maintenance accessibility, visual appearance, structural safety, and long-term outdoor durability.

The site photos show high mast luminaire-ring installation, completed stadium poles, and the nighttime lighting effect of the 9 m decorative poles.

Key Project Challenges

1. Sports Lighting and Campus Decorative Lighting Requirements

The project combined two different lighting applications: functional sports-field lighting and decorative campus road lighting.

The stadium required effective lighting coverage with consideration for uniformity and glare control, while the campus road system needed to support safe nighttime circulation and maintain an appropriate architectural appearance.

The two systems therefore required different pole structures, luminaire configurations, maintenance methods, and visual designs.

2. Maintenance at 20 m Mounting Height

Luminaires installed at a 20 m height are difficult to maintain using a conventional fixed high mast system and normally require aerial work equipment.

As the campus remained in regular use, a ground-level maintenance solution was preferred to reduce disruption from high-level maintenance work.

3. Long-Term Outdoor Durability

The poles are exposed to seasonal temperature variation, rain, snow, wind loads, and long-term outdoor weathering.

A stable corrosion-protection and surface-finishing system was therefore required to reduce corrosion, coating degradation, and long-term maintenance demand.

4. Parallel Production of Two Different Pole Systems

The project included both 20 m mechanical-lowering high mast systems and 9 m decorative lighting poles.

The two product types differed significantly in structure, materials, luminaire configuration, and production process, requiring separate manufacturing and inspection while maintaining coordinated delivery.

5. Limited Campus Installation Windows

As the project was located within an active campus, on-site working time and available installation areas were limited.

Factory prefabrication and pre-assembly were used to reduce secondary fabrication, wiring, and assembly work on site.

Engineering Solution

The project adopted a combined configuration of 20 m mechanical-lowering high mast lighting systems and 9 m multi-luminaire decorative lighting poles, providing separate solutions for the sports field and campus road areas.

1. Two Structural Steel Pole Configurations

The 20 m mechanical-lowering high mast poles were manufactured from Q355B structural steel and engineered according to mast height, luminaire load, and project wind conditions.

The 9 m decorative lighting poles were manufactured from Q235B carbon structural steel and configured for campus road and landscape lighting applications.

Each pole type was designed for its specific lighting and structural requirements.

2. Hot-Dip Galvanizing + Powder-Coated Corrosion Protection

The steel pole structures were hot-dip galvanized, with the zinc coating thickness controlled according to project requirements and a typical target of not less than 85 μm.

An outdoor powder-coated finish was then applied according to aesthetic and weather-resistance requirements, improving long-term corrosion protection while also meeting the appearance requirements of decorative lighting poles.

3. Mechanical-Lowering Luminaire Ring for Ground-Level Maintenance

The 20 m stadium high mast systems were equipped with mechanical-lowering luminaire rings.

The luminaire ring can be lowered to ground level for major luminaire inspection, replacement, and adjustment, reducing dependence on aerial work equipment and simplifying future maintenance.

4. Integrated Luminaire Configuration for Two Pole Types

The 20 m high mast systems used multi-luminaire lowering rings to provide high-level centralized lighting for the sports field, with luminaire positions and aiming angles configured according to the required coverage area.

The 9 m decorative poles used multi-luminaire decorative top assemblies to provide functional campus road lighting while maintaining the desired architectural appearance.

Major luminaires, mounting brackets, and related structural components were pre-assembled at the factory to reduce on-site assembly and wiring work.

5. Separate Factory Prefabrication and Coordinated Delivery

The 20 m high mast systems and 9 m decorative lighting poles were manufactured, pre-assembled, and inspected under separate standardized production processes.

High mast systems underwent pre-assembly of the lowering mechanism and main luminaires, while decorative poles were pre-assembled with their luminaire heads and decorative components.

All 40 pole systems were completed and delivered within 26 days, supporting the campus construction schedule.

Project Outcome

Following completion, the 20 m mechanical-lowering high mast systems and 9 m decorative lighting poles were delivered as scheduled, providing a combined solution for stadium lighting and campus road illumination.

Key project outcomes included:

  • →4 × 20 m mechanical-lowering high mast lighting systems and 36 × 9 m decorative lighting poles completed and delivered within 26 days

  • →Mechanical-lowering luminaire rings enabled major maintenance and luminaire replacement at ground level, reducing the need for aerial work

  • →Hot-dip galvanizing combined with outdoor powder coating provided both long-term weather resistance and a suitable decorative finish

  • →20 m high mast systems provided large-area sports-field lighting, while 9 m decorative poles served campus roads and public areas

  • →Factory pre-assembly and standardized production reduced on-site assembly and secondary fabrication

  • →Functional sports lighting and decorative campus lighting were delivered within one coordinated project
