Project Overview
■Date: June 2020
■Client: Beijing Urban Construction Group Co., Ltd.
■Deployment: 4 × 20 m high mast lighting systems with lowering headframes; 4 × 8 m basketball court lighting poles
■Delivery Lead Time: 16 days
The project provided outdoor lighting for the main sports field and adjacent basketball courts.
The solution combined large-area lighting coverage, adjustable floodlight positioning, and ground-level maintenance, with steel pole structures designed for long-term outdoor service in northern China.
Project photos show on-site installation and headframe testing, including multiple LED floodlights mounted on the lowering headframes.
1. Sports Lighting Requirements
The main field and basketball courts required suitable lighting coverage, uniformity, and glare control. Luminaire quantity, mounting height, and aiming needed to suit each area and its intended use.
2. Maintenance at 20 m Height
Servicing fixed luminaires at 20 m typically requires aerial access equipment. Equipment access during stadium operation can complicate maintenance, making ground-level servicing a key requirement.
3. Long-Term Outdoor Exposure
The pole structures required protection against temperature changes, rain, snow, wind loads, and outdoor corrosion.
4. Headframe and Electrical Integration
The lowering headframes needed to accommodate multiple LED floodlights, mounting brackets, cabling, and electrical components while allowing luminaire adjustment and maintenance access.
5. Short Delivery Schedule
Pole fabrication, headframe assembly, luminaire integration, and delivery needed to meet a tight construction schedule.
The project combined 4 × 20 m high mast lighting systems with lowering headframes and 4 × 8 m basketball court lighting poles, matching lighting and maintenance requirements across the two areas.
1. Q355B Steel Mast Structures
The 20 m masts were manufactured from Q355B structural steel. Engineering checks addressed structural loading, deflection, and foundation stability based on mast height, equipment loads, and site wind conditions.
2. Hot-Dip Galvanized Protection
The steel structures were hot-dip galvanized for long-term outdoor corrosion protection.
Standard projects follow GB/T 13912, a modified adoption of ISO 1461. For export projects, galvanizing and inspection can follow ISO 1461, subject to customer specifications.
3. Lowering Headframes for Ground-Level Maintenance
The headframes can be lowered to ground level for routine luminaire inspection and replacement, reducing reliance on aerial access equipment and simplifying maintenance.
4. Multi-Luminaire and Electrical Integration
Each headframe incorporated multiple high-power LED floodlights, mounting brackets, cabling, and associated electrical components.
Luminaire placement and aiming adjustments supported the lighting coverage and uniformity requirements of each area. Headframes and primary electrical components were preassembled and checked in the factory to reduce on-site assembly, wiring, and adjustment.
5. Area-Specific Pole Heights
The main sports field used 20 m high masts for large-area lighting. The basketball courts used 8 m lighting poles, providing a separate configuration suited to the smaller playing areas.
6. Factory Prefabrication and Fast Delivery
Masts, headframes, and structural components were prefabricated, with headframes and luminaires preassembled before delivery.
All systems were manufactured and delivered within 16 days, supporting the project construction schedule.
