Project Overview
Project Date: November 2017
Project: Beijing Capital International Airport Apron Security Pole Project
Deployment: 25 × 18 m security camera poles and 80 × 20 m security camera poles
Delivery Lead Time: 30 days
This project provided high-level support poles for multi-directional CCTV equipment across the apron area of Beijing Capital International Airport.
As a critical aviation operating zone, the apron required high standards for structural safety, wind resistance, corrosion protection, equipment integration, and site installation control.
The site photos show the poles during lifting, installation, and equipment integration. Multi-camera mounting structures were installed at the pole tops, while fixed access ladders were integrated into the pole shafts for equipment installation and future maintenance.
1. Structural Safety for Tall Poles in an Open Airport Environment
The apron is an open area where 18 m and 20 m poles are exposed to significant wind loads.
The concentration of multiple camera units at the pole top also increases equipment load and wind-exposed area, placing higher requirements on structural strength, deflection control, and foundation stability.
2. Multi-Camera Integration at Height
Each pole was required to support multiple CCTV cameras for monitoring in different directions.
The top mounting structure therefore had to provide sufficient structural strength while also allowing for equipment positioning, angle adjustment, cable routing, and future maintenance access.
3. Long-Term Outdoor Corrosion Protection
The poles operate continuously in an exposed outdoor environment subject to rain, snow, temperature variation, airborne contaminants, and other long-term atmospheric effects.
A durable corrosion-protection system was required to reduce long-term corrosion risk and maintenance demand.
4. Transportation and On-Site Lifting of Tall Poles
The 18 m and 20 m poles are large structures with high centers of gravity.
Airport site conditions and limited work windows required careful coordination of transport, lifting, base connection, and installation activities to minimize on-site working time.
5. High-Volume Production and Consistent Quality Control
The project required a total of 105 poles, including 25 units at 18 m and 80 units at 20 m.
Large-volume production required consistent control of materials, welding, dimensions, galvanizing, and final inspection while maintaining the 30-day delivery schedule.
The project used a combination of 18 m and 20 m fixed CCTV camera poles, selected according to different monitoring locations and coverage requirements across the apron.
1. Q355B Structural Steel Pole Design
The 18 m and 20 m poles were manufactured from Q355B structural steel.
Structural design and engineering checks were carried out based on pole height, site wind conditions, and top-mounted equipment loads, with consideration given to structural strength, deflection, and foundation stability.
2. Hot-Dip Galvanized Corrosion Protection
The complete pole structures were hot-dip galvanized to improve long-term corrosion resistance in outdoor service.
For standard projects, hot-dip galvanizing is carried out in accordance with GB/T 13912, which is modified in relation to ISO 1461. For export projects, galvanizing production and inspection can be performed in accordance with ISO 1461 based on the customer's technical specification.
3. Multi-Camera Top Mounting Structure
Multiple equipment mounting brackets were integrated at the pole top to support several CCTV cameras and multi-directional monitoring.
The mounting structure provided space for equipment installation and angle adjustment, allowing camera views to be aligned and fine-tuned on site.
The top structure was also designed with consideration for equipment load, wind-exposed area, and overall stability.
4. Internal Cable Routing and Fixed Access Ladder
Internal cable pathways were integrated into the pole shaft to reduce exposed wiring and improve long-term cable protection.
A fixed access ladder with safety protection was provided for equipment installation, adjustment, and future maintenance at height.
5. Factory Prefabrication and Fast On-Site Erection
Pole shafts, flanges, top mounting structures, and related components were prefabricated and inspected at the factory.
Once delivered to site, installation was mainly limited to lifting and foundation connection, reducing on-site welding and secondary fabrication in the restricted airport environment.
6. Standardized Batch Production
The 105 poles were manufactured in two standardized height configurations: 18 m and 20 m.
Materials, welding, structural dimensions, galvanizing, and final inspection were controlled under unified production requirements, allowing the complete batch to be delivered within 30 days.
